With fall officially here and American politics in full swing, Charlie begins with President Trump’s meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping. He warns that weakening America’s support for Taiwan in pursuit of a deal with Beijing would be a mistake of historic proportions, especially as China continues pressing the United States over arms sales to the self-governing island.

Charlie then praises President Trump’s forceful address to the United Nations, calling it one of his best speeches before the General Assembly and a clear statement of the Trump doctrine. Still, one question remains: after correctly describing the danger posed by Iran, why pursue another agreement with a regime that has repeatedly shown it cannot be trusted? Trump told the U.N. that he expects an eventual deal while maintaining the threat of further military action.

On a happier note, the boys of summer are heading toward the Fall Classic—and Phillies fans are hoping for another Red October. Congratulations to the Reading Fightin Phils, who captured the Eastern League championship with a 13-4 victory featuring two grand slams.
