From the Ballpark to the Belmont • Best 60ish Seconds

In this week's Best 60ish Seconds, Charlie opens by applauding Major League Baseball for its Memorial Day tribute — every stadium with an active game paused at 3:00 p.m. for a moment of silence in honor of America's fallen service members. Charlie calls it fabulous, and gives special praise to the many teams — including his own Philadelphia Phillies — who wore red poppies on their uniforms to honor the tradition.

Charlie then heads to Texas, where Ken Paxton won the Republican Senate primary runoff in decisive fashion over incumbent Sen. John Cornyn — a four-term senator whose four decades in public life couldn't overcome the weight of a Trump endorsement going the other way. Charlie says it "wasn't even close" and calls it another signal of the strength of President Trump's endorsement in Republican primaries in this midterm year.

Charlie then turns to Washington and the dust up between the Trump administration and the U.S. Senate over the proposed $250 bill bearing President Trump's face. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent has confirmed the Bureau of Engraving and Printing has already prepared designs — but federal law currently prohibits any living person from appearing on U.S. currency, meaning Congress must first pass legislation to make an exception. The bill, introduced by Rep. Joe Wilson of South Carolina, has stalled in the Senate. Charlie takes a moment to note the fascinating history of large-denomination bills no longer in circulation — including the $1,000 bill, last printed in 1934 and withdrawn from circulation in 1969, which featured the face of President Grover Cleveland.

Charlie closes by looking ahead to the third jewel of the Triple Crown — the 158th Belmont Stakes, running Saturday, June 6 at Saratoga Race Course for the third and final time before Belmont Park reopens in the fall. Post time is 7:04 p.m. ET on FOX. With Golden Tempo in the field, it promises to be a great race.
